The playoff race is getting more interesting with each day that passes. We had teams that needed to get a win to keep their playoff chances alive and at the end of today we have 4 teams tied for 5th at 8-8 with only two teams able to get into the playoffs. Let's dive in. Daren's Astros 9 Phil's Red Sox 4Daren's Astros came into the day on a two game losing streak and needed a win to stay in the playoff hunt. The Astros offense woke up in a big way and got the victory to keep the Astros one game behind in the playoff chase. Mike Trout started the scoring with a solo homer in the first inning. Andrew Benintendi and Matt Chapman got the Red Sox the lead in the bottom of the 4th with RBI singles. Bumgarner got into a little trouble in the 7th inning and the Red Sox turned to Edwin Diaz who much like in real life blew the game. J.T. Realmuto hit a game tying RBI double and Jose Abreu and Cody Bellinger went back to back in a 7 run 7th inning to lead the Astros to victory. The win gives the Astros the split in the season series with the Red Sox. Eddy's Royals 6 Josh's White Sox 2Both teams came into this game needing a win to stay with the pack in the playoff hunt and it was Eddy's Royals who got the victory to stay one game out of the playoff hunt. The White Sox got the lead in the 1st inning on a Eugenio Suarez RBI single. Anthony Rendon hit a two run homer in the bottom of the 4th to give the Royals the lead but Alex Bregman answered right back with a solo shot in the top of the 5th to tie it. The Royals got a 2 run single from Jose Ramirez in the bottom of the 5th to take the lead and got insurance with a Mookie Betts 2 run homer in the bottom of the 6th. Max Fried worked in and out of trouble but couldn't get out of the 5th inning but Marco Gonzalez relieved him and pitched 4 scoreless innings. Gonzalez got into trouble in the 9th but Aaron Bummer struck out Edwin Encarnacion with the bases loaded to end the game. The win gives the Royals the sweep in the season series with the White Sox. Billy's Orioles 2 Chris's Twins 1One of the stories of the second half has been Billy's Orioles squad climbing up the standings and with the win today puts them in a tie for a playoff spot. This matchup was all about Robbie Ray and Lance Lynn dealing. Lynn gave up a Juan Soto sac fly in the first inning but that was it for the Twins offense. The Orioles got the lead in the bottom of the 6th when Josh Bell and Wilson Ramos homered off of Ray. The Twins offense couldn't get anything going off the Orioles bullpen. The win gives the Orioles the split in the season series against the Twins. Justin's Mariners 4 Jon's Indians 0Jon's Indians have struggled offensively in the second half and they were shutout for the second time in 3 days and are on a 3 game losing streak. The story for Justin's Mariners was the pitching performance of the day from Corey Kluber and Andrew McCutchen's big day at the plate. The win for the Mariners also puts them in a tie for a playoff spot. McCutchen opened the scoring with a solo shot in the 3rd inning. Matt Olson hit a RBI double in the bottom of the 4th and McCutchen put the game away with his second homer of the game in the bottom of the 5th. The win gives the Mariners the split in the season series with the Indians. Tom's Blue Jays 1 Degaglia's Yankees 0"That's baseball Suzan!". This game was the shocker so far of the season with Tommy's Blue Jays pulling off the upset victory of the top seeded Yankees. Julio Urias pitched 7 dominant innings for the Blue Jays who got a RBI single from Justin Smoak in the 3rd inning for the only run in the game. Drew Pomeranz looked like he was going to give the game to the Yankees walking the bases loaded but he got Gary Sanchez to fly out to end the game. The win gives the Blue Jays the split in the season series with the Yankees. Bharath's Angels 3 Prior's Tigers 1Both teams came into the game looking to improve upon their playoff positioning and it was Bharath's Angels who got the win and were able to pull into a tie atop the standings. The Angels got the scoring started with a Joc Pederson RBI single in the 3rd innings. Pederson scored later in the inning on a Francisco Lindor error that would have ended the inning. The Tigers got a run back with a Rafael Devers sac fly in the top of the 4th but Dee Gordon got a RBI single in the bottom of the inning to get the run back. The Tigers had their best change in the top of the 8th when they had men on 2nd and 3rd against Aroldis Chapman but Chapman got Paul Goldschmidt to strike out and Michael Conforto to fly out preserve the victory.
